Tiffin Style Lunchboxes - Stacking Your Meals With Style!

Tiffins for Lunch carrying

Tiffin has a lot of meanings.  It could mean a confectionary dessert made of crushed biscuits or it could be a city in Iowa. Another definition of Tiffin is a light meal, usually taken between lunch and dinner.  Because of the tradition of packing meals when leaving the house, people in Asia used what they call Tiffin boxes to pack rice, curry, vegetables, and more for their loved ones who needs to go to work.  This is where the Tiffin Style lunch boxes got their concept.  Tiffin lunch boxes consist of 3 to 4 containers stacked on top of each other.  A latch is then connected to hold all the containers together.  This latch comes with a handle at the top to make it easier to carry around.  The idea of using a Tiffin revolves around three concepts: simplicity, beauty, and function.

The first type of Tiffin lunch boxes were made of stainless steel.  This made it easier to clean and the metal keeps the food warmer for a longer time.  Nowadays, several other types are already available aside from stainless style Tiffin boxes.  There are those made of plastic or melamine.  The great thing about stainless style boxes, though, is that they can be reheated easily without damaging the containers.  Plastic or melamine ware Tiffin boxes are ideal for kids who bring packed lunch to school.  Metal containers would not be so ideal for them.  There are various colors and designs when it comes to plastic or melamine Tiffin style lunch boxes.  You can be sure that your kids would have fun bring these to school and eating with it as well.

Plastic Tiffin boxes are easier to wash because they are dishwasher-safe.  Most Tiffins made of this material, although they can not be reheated in open flame, can be reheated in the microwave.  These are ideal for children because they are lighter and they can come in different colors and designs.  Stainless steel Tiffins, on the other hand, are not dishwasher-safe but they are much easier to clean because, unlike plastic, they do not hold food odors and food stains.  They may not be microwavable, but they can be reheated in an open flame or in a toaster oven. Just make sure to use a pot holder when handling stainless steel ware to avoid burns.

There are several types of lunch boxes available in the market today.  The stand out characteristic of the Tiffin lunch boxes is that it can be stacked upright, saving more space and making it easier to carry.  You can carry up to 4 containers with just one hand.  Each container is big enough to accommodate what you would need to nourish your body. You can even pack your breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner all in one Tiffin box.  It is designed in such a simple manner that anyone can stack and re-stack them with the latch.  It is so beautifully designed and so functional that eating far from home has never been this fun and easy.

The best known brand of Tiffins are from To Go Ware as seen above.
